Review 6: Art Of The Dress (Always Stressed Mix) - PinkiePieSwear

This was one of my earlier collected pony songs, when I still only had about fifteen, and it’s stuck pretty high on my list for a number of reasons. For such an obviously remixed song, it flows remarkably well and funnily enough, I favour it when I, myself, am stressed.

Sliding in with his dulcet tones, PinkiePieSwear reels in the listener’s focus with a minute long, slowly building introduction, before setting in the timely backing beats. I have seen several tentative ponies scared away from this song due to the apparent strangeness of the Rarity sound grabs, but I strongly advise each listener to stick with it.

A minute later, and we already we have a picture formed in our minds of Rarity’s predicament, focusing on the “detail” and “stitching it together”; the way the rhythm flows strongly portrays Rarity’s maturity and strength as she stitches Apple Jack’s new dress. The short break in the centre contrasts with the remainder of the song, making it all the more effective.

The pace is gradually building, and the soundbites becoming more frequent as the deadline looms, and the feeling of a time limit is reinforced more greatly than before.

As she begins sewing them together, the song’s crescendo is reached and the backbeat is changed to the second chorus of the original song, focusing on the constant stress of the seamstress. Each beat interlocks with each other in perfection for just half a minute, but it can feel like so much more.

I really, really like this song, especially when I'm in a "mood". I'm sorry about my decline in reviews lately, but I've been very distracted, and slightly out of it, hence my reviewing this particular song.

  1. This is also one of my all time favorite songs (I have only kept about 52 of the hundreds I've heard since last winter). I read more of a build-up of Rarity's power in this song, her Art of the Dress, through which she shines. So many artists use soundbites from the show as musical notes. Here PinkiePieSwear keeps the meaning in the words, to great effect.
