Weekly Top 7 #2

Source

Righty-o, fillies and gentlecolts! I'm back for another week's Top 7 releases. Although there was not nearly as much content, as opposed to last week's flood, I was pleased to see enough to sustain this segment.

#7: Time to be Cruel (feat. Flutterbully) - Jeffthestrider

Fluttershy, you're such a jerk. To a suitable backing track (that sounds suspiciously like The Final Countdown), Jeffthestrider demonstrates this pretty darn effectively. I always giggle at the "Rainbow Crash" line.

#6: My Little Pony Theme Song (Remastered) - Daniel Ingram and Co.

I think the facts got misconstrued for a few people in the whole idea of remastering. I think quite a number of bronies expected and entirely new song, but bugger that. I like the song how it is. I do, however, think I prefer this new version. I think there's more individualization in each character's lines and much more energy to the piece.
Also, Derpy's in the new friggin' opening. How cool is that!

#5: Audiosketches: Sad Song, Empire of the Golden Sun, Appleoosa - Makkon

This may be slightly confusing to some ponies. This is not one song, nor is there anything that could be called "Complete" about it. It's a few samples that Makkon decided to throw onto his channel for us to hear. I'm not sure whether he will ever do something with them, but I certainly hope so. Each track has its own distinct rhythm, and I'd very much like to see them completed.
As weird as it is, I actually like the song as a whole! Hence the Top 7 placement.

#4: "Rainbow Dash" (Original 8-Bit MLP theme) - MandoPony

I'm a big fan of 8bit. Odd, considering I haven't actually downloaded any. But I like the deliciously nostalgic effect it has on many people (myself included). This particular iteration focuses on Rainbow Dash, and how awesome and fast she is. Pretty well done, too.
You should all check out the rest of these. MandoPony is basically creating an 8bit theme for each Mane, or otherwise important, pony. I only chose to spotlight Dash's because it's the best of the lot. Trixie's is pretty neat, though.

#3: Sunshine and Celery Stalks - PinkiePieSwear

There are not enough songs dedicated to Apple Jack. Whether this is because she hasn't had any real episode moments, or simply due to her "underdog" status, I'm not sure. My excitement at the prospect of a new Pinkie Pie Swear song was compounded by the fact that it was for AJ. I was actually recently contemplating whether PPS was going to bring out a new song the day this popped up, and it grows on you the more you listen, I guarantee.

#2: The Rise Of A New Lunar Republic - FurryFoxfire

When I was linked to this song early last week, I actually expected just another For The New Lunar Republic remix or cover (There's, what, twenty by now?), and I was pleasantly surprised to see it was actually unique! It only just edged ahead of Pinkie Pie Swear's song on the ladder. (Might review this properly later)

#1: Winter Dance Up - SimGretina

Oh, SimGretina... You so dancey. First with Art of the Trance and the Gala's 20% Cooler mix (Previously reviewed), now this. You really know how to make a pony want to get up and dance.
This is very much a dance mix of Winter Wrap Up. What more can be said?

It was frustratingly hard to pick a Number One this week...

  1. #7: I'd seen this one before and gave it a 2nd chance... Not quite for me, it's more like 3 minute synopsis of ep 2 than a song.

#6: I liked the original better. The new remastered version kills the 'Ahhhh' chorus, brings up the harp and drum kit until they become intrusive, and renders the voices more operatic, less sweet than the original.

#5: Three one minute works... I liked the third one, "Appleoosa" although less during the electric guitar riff in the middle, and it really seems unfinished the way it ends suddenly at the end.

#4: The RD theme was nice, Trixie a bit more, but once again, the Twilight theme rules them all. I generally don't have an affinity for 8 bit, but I'll be happy to keep a copy of the Twilight theme.

#3: A nice experiment... an exploration of dysphasia. So, this is madness?

#2: A cut above nice, this is pretty decent.

#1: PinkiePieSwear did this so much better. But I liked the video clips, especially the clip from Pulp Fiction, and you can't dance to PPS's WWW (Late Again).
