PMV Spotlight - Polka Face

Soggy Doggy again, with another PMV Spotlight. This one's interesting, and has been one of my favourites since, ages ago! Remember how I was talking about different 'types' of PMVs a while back? (Even though technically there's only Music Videos, but to hay with that). Anyway, this one is like an Anthology video, while at the same time still being a Music cover, as is the nature of the crazy song.

Weekly Top 7 #4

It is time, once again, to wade through the past week's ocean of musical content and pick out the very best. There was some pretty tough competition this week, and a couple only just scraped in ahead of the others, but I almost always give my honest opinion on which songs are the top. Blasted Batmare (Batstallion?): Arkham City has been eating my time, and I fell behind listening to the musics. Made catching up all the harder!

So then, here we go.

Musical Analysis 11

Hello again, everypony! It's sonic30 here with, you guessed it, another song! I would've had this review out earlier, and I even had a great song picked out. However, I stumbled upon the little gem embedded above. Now, I don't usually do songs that use pony sound bytes for the music itself, but this one really stood out to me.
It's called "Brony Heaven" by Parnas1us. I stumbled upon it, thinking that a single song couldn't be anything like an actual Brony Heaven. I was wrong. It may not be an actual Heaven for Bronies, but it is simply an awesome song. I literally stared, mesmerized, at my screen for about an hour, listening to it over and over. Not only is the music great, but Parnas1us is also great with video editing.
Anyway, I'd better save this for the review, otherwise I'll have nothing to put below the page break. Speaking of which, click below to find the review!

PMV Spotlight - Old Mare's Tale (Octavastia Your Flank)

Hello everypony! It's okay, I'm still alive, but that last post took a lot out of me. Luckily my shipment of 12 new Sparkle Cola crates arrived today. Funny though, usually they arrive on Saturdays, ah well.

Review 12: Equestrian National Anthem

This review is pretty special, and it should be apparent why. I have heard plenty attempts to create an anthem for us bronies, but only a couple for Equestria itself. Of course the best to come out have been for Equestria's mighty empire, but this is by far the best I have heard.

Below the following review are the words to this beautiful track. I'm actually making the review itself quite short, because there's not much to say. This is more of a spotlight so as many bronies as possible know of this song. So click past the page break and get wit' the learnin'!

Top 10 Greatest Luna songs ever!

Hello everypony, It's me, Soggy, you know, best pony?
Nah, I'm not that pretentious, besides, Princess Luna is clearly, and without an iota of doubt, the BEST pony! Nightmare Night was brilliant, for the part I managed to attend anyway and I hear the rest was great. Apparently Princess Luna's arrival was terrifying, I wish I was there to see that...

Anyway, why not celebrate this year's Nightmare Night, and the regent of the Moon herself, by collating and presenting the Top 10 best Luna songs, in an ostentatious manner of course.

Musical Analysis 10 (Plus One Month)

Alright, everypony! It's sonic30 here, and I've hit my tenth review! It's also been about one month since my very first post here on Equestrian Rhythm! I'm probably more excited about this than I should be, but I don't care. I've had a lot of fun here, and I plan to keep going. Anyway, I thought I'd do something... new... for my tenth review. Thus, we have "Marshmallow of Generosity (A Rarity Theme)" by ISMBOFepicly.
I'm going to be completely honest with everypony. This song isn't what comes to mind when you think of Rarity. I'm still somewhat speechless because of the impossible connection between Rarity and this song. For those that would rather hear the song for themselves and not have it spoiled, I'll save the rest for after the break. Warning, there's not much of a review.

Review 11: Luna Deos - Makkon

OK. This song actually was at the top of my list for a long, long time. Makkon has long been one of my favourite music bronies, and will probably remain up there if he ever comes out with a new song! (One week is like a month in Brony Time (BT))
One of the greatest difficulties in reviewing this particular song is that it's so good. It's hard to nitpick and find the individual components of it's brilliance. And unlike my previous review, this is not a joke. This song is fantastic.

Read why after the break, I suppose.

Poll Results #3

Once again, the most masterful DJ in Equestria has proved to be the greatest pony! Was there ever any doubt? Vinyl Scratch has such a brilliant fan personality, as well as a terrifically unique colour scheme and style.

I was disappointed in poor Sweetie Belle's results, I really like her songs and I hope she, of all ponies, gets a couple of songs in season 2.
Soggy Doggy will have a banner up later in the day commemorating Vinyl's accomplishments, but I think he's a little sour over Luna's loss in the polls.

Well would ya look at that... Not late in  poll results post. First ever, I think. The next poll is over to the right, there. It's a pretty hard one, but I suppose we'd better get it out of the way before Season 2 actually gets any official songs.

Edit: I was forced to remember the Cutie Mark Crusaders Theme. Poll had to be reset. Go revote.

Musical Analysis 9

Hello once again, everypony! Multi and Soggy had so much soda, that their sugar rush caused them to go a bit crazy. While in this state, Multi opened my cage again, giving me back my original semblance of freedom. However, he'll shut me away again if I wait any longer before doing another review, so here you go!
This time around, I picked the song for two reasons. One, it was another request from Frith, and, two, it fits nicely with the recently aired Nightmare Night episode. It's a little song called "Rainbow Factory (Silva Hound Remix)" by Silva Hound. It's a remix of "Rainbow Factory" by Wooden Toaster. Both are great, but I flipped a coin, and Tails says I do this one. It's an interesting piece, so give it a listen. Afterwards (or before, if you wish) give my review a look.
Click that shiny little button for the review. It's too shiny not to click it.

PMV Spotlight - Cell Block Pony Tango

HA HAAA! Freedom is finally mine! Stupid guards missed one of my lockpicks, in fact it was my only lockpick. So anyway when I broke out it was Nightmare Night. Oooo, yes, perfect timing I thought. I spent the rest of the night walking around Ponyville, enjoying the various events and activities. I did see Luna, but er... I was um, too shy to say hello. Foal.

The night was not over yet. I got back to the ER office, nopony was there at the time, but in my space were no less than seven crates of Sparkle Cola! So now me and Multifish are good buds again!
"Huh? Oh right, forgot I did those..."
Ooops, if I don't review a PMV right now, I won't get to keep the two remaining crates of precious Cola.
So I guess, here we go:

Weekly Top 7 #3

Wow, this week was surprisingly slow for music as far as this community was concerned. And I was amazingly disappointed that Luna Eclipsed didn't get a song. Oh well.

I recovered from Soggy Doggy's attempted murder, so let's get on with the show!

Another day at Equestrian Rhythm

Luna, Luna-a. Luna, Luna-a. Luna, Luna-a. Luna, Celestia.

*opens door* Hey, Multi. I love that last review. The vocals were so bad that it's funny! I can't get that song out of my head. I'll have to get a new review out to match the level of awesome that yours has created. Maybe I could... Multi? Multi, are you...

Oh, dear Celestia! What in Equestria happened in here?! Who did this? Who could have... This is Soggy's favorite pen. That song... it drove him over the edge! I need to check the security tapes...

Oh no... Soggy snapped and disposed of the one who defiled Luna's name with a small joke... And now Celestia's royal guard had no choice but to take care of Soggy when he resisted. Both of them are gone. That means... that means...

The deed is Done!

*Pant *Pant

Right, good. Okay ponies, I don't have much time. Multifish is... gone. It had to be done! There was no other way! I mean, how dare he! Demeaning Luna's holy name with that... THAT!

They'll be here soon, but I stand by what I did. Shame though, that was my favourite pen. Sorry everypony, the blog might be- "HALT! You violated the law! Pay the court a fine or serve your sentance!"
"NEVER!"

Gyah... Go Sonic30! Run the site, I believe in you, you have my faith as- "THEN PAY WITH YOUR BLOOD!" As well as Luna's!

"Don't touch me!"
"DIE!"
"FOR THE NEW LUNAR REPUB-"

KA-THUNK....

Review 10: The Best Song Of All Time!

Source

We are fast approaching the one month anniversary of this fine website, and in honour of that event, as well as my tenth review, I thought I'd make this review extra special.

Every few decades, there comes a song to blow all the others out of the water. A song that plays with such force and beauty that it drives grown men to shed manly, manly tears. A song that demonstrates not only the brilliance of life and love, but also that of loss and heartbreak. My heart nearly bursts when this kind of song begins to play, and I stop whatever I am doing, just to listen.
No written description can come close to describing the true emotion of this level of masterpiece.
And of all things, this community has brought us one such song.
When I first heard it on Celestia Radio, I knew I was listening to the true masterpiece of our time. This will go down in history, I thought, as the best song of the 21st Century. Nothing will ever top it.

Fillies and Gentlecolts, after such buildup, may I present to you...
Luna performed and written by former Celestia Radio DJ, Prison.

Musical Analysis 8

Hello once again, everypony! It's sonic30 here with another song. So, after my last review, I got curious and decided to read the story Allegrezza. I liked it, and I recommend it, but it does begin to get some shipping as it goes along. Anyway, the story prompted me to be in the mood for some more Vinyl Scratch and Octavia stuff. However, I've done two songs that feature them together, and one of them was a bit Vinyl Scratch heavy. This time, I wanted to give a song about Octavia the spotlight.
The song this time around is "No Strings Attached (Octavia Battle Theme)" by Jeffthestrider. I picked this one mainly because I love battle music. This song is what Jeffthestrider believes Octavia's battle theme might sound like. I've gotta say, it's an interesting idea, but did the song turn out ok? Well, listen to the song and read up the review.
By the way, the review ran away and hid behind the page break. Careful! It's shy!

PMV Spotlight - Ponyvarium

Hello everypony, time for another PMV Spotlight. I was planning on doing something different after my third Spotlight, but then... Ponyvarium.
WOW, just... jeez, madness. So without further blown-mind induced procrastination, lets begin.

Happy Birthday Sonic30!

My squadron of journalistic howler monkeys recently reported back to me with some shocking news! Today is Sonic30's birthday! Happy Birthday Sonic, ol' buddy, ol' pal!

You showed up right at this site's early stages (not that we're not still in the early stages!) and I had no idea that when I locked you up in that dungeon of mine, you'd come in handy as much as you have! What with my currently erratic schedule and juggling of plates (very hard with hooves) it's good to know the site rarely goes an entire day without a review, or otherwise post. It's also amazingly useful to have somepony to cover songs I either don't like, or simply don't have time for.

I hope you have a pony-filled birthday that Pinkie Pie would be proud of!

Review 9: Flutterwonder (SoGreatandPowerful Remix) - SoGreatandPowerful

This little number snagged the #5 spot on my first Top 7, and I'll be a manticore's uncle if it didn't deserve higher! This musical community never ceases to amaze me in how creative it can manage to be. Remixes of remixes. And then remixes of those, but that's a different matter. SoGreatandPowerful pulled off here, what only a few other bronies have done before him, at least in such great success. He not only retained the original Flutterwonder's innate brilliance, but added enough personal flare to make it unique. Good job, SoGreatandPowerful.

Musical Analysis 7

Hello again, everypony! It's sonic30 here with yet more pony music. If everypony will remember with me, a couple days ago, I reviewed a song that was supposed to be a battle between Octavia and Vinyl Scratch. At the end of that review, I stated that it needed a better balance between the two. (The song was very Vinyl Scratch heavy) Upon checking my comments, a fellow brony dropped me a link. Now, thanks to GlomKettle, I can review a Vinyl Scratch and Octavia song that has a better balance. Thank you, GlomKettle.
Anyway, the song is titled "Allegretto (feat. Octavia and Vinyl Scratch)" by psychogoth. The song is fan music of the story "Allegrezza" and is, to my understanding, (I haven't read it. Yet.) a story about the friendship between Vinyl Scratch and Octavia.
Can you find where I've hidden the review? (Hint: It's somewhere after the break!)

PMV Spotlight - YOUR FACE!

Well, time for another PMV Spotlight, but first: I've noticed quite a few comments on EQD recently with people raging at others about what a PMV is. Techinically they are correct, they srictly should only be Pony Music Videos, but as is the internet, terms get thrown around a lot and it's become kind of an arbitrary term for: Something videoey. Heh. Anyway, YOUR FACE!

Weekly Top 7 #2

Source

Righty-o, fillies and gentlecolts! I'm back for another week's Top 7 releases. Although there was not nearly as much content, as opposed to last week's flood, I was pleased to see enough to sustain this segment.

Website Redesign

Source
Right. I've had a few complaints over the current site design and, now that Soggy's back in action and can reorganize the banner, I can finally do something about it.

So, the major thing that seems to have irked people is the colour scheme, and how it's slightly annoying to read with it. That's kind of a big problem on a site dedicated to textual reviews and analyses. So, BAM! brighter colours.
Over the next few days, you can probably expect more redesigns and such throughout the next few days, but I think it does need a change. We'll just go through trial and error for a while, I guess.

Also, YES! New episode tonight! Isn't this exciting? Are you excited? 'Cause I'm excited! I've never been so excited! Well, except for that time I saw you walking into town and I went, *GAAAASSSSP*, but really... This new ep also means revised opening tune, which I eagerly await, as well as the following remixes, covers, etc.

New Poll - Favourite Pony

The new poll is up and located to the left of the screen. I put Pinkie up there because she doesn't get enough love as a musical pony, and she has the most actual songs out of all of them!

And I guess Luna's there... Due to demand.

Links for the Live Stream

Hey, everypony. It's sonic30 here with my update on the live stream tomorrow. For anypony who has no idea what I'm talking about, check out this post for the details. For the rest of you, however, I've got the links.

Or click here to go to the donations page.

The stream will start a little before 8 am Eastern Time (-5:00) for introductory purposes. It'll last all the way until the 24 hours are up. If you want to donate, feel like supporting our mad gaming spree, or just enjoy watching people make fools of themselves, then give those links a click.
I hope to see you all there!

Poll Results #2

Once again, I'm late with the poll results. Thanks to everypony that voted, there'll be a new one up shortly. What's with [voodoopony]'s lack of love, guys? Tut tut. I think it's pretty obvious who the winners are, though. Maybe I should spotlight them later...

The Challenge Of Sci

Today we at Equestrian Rhythm were issued a challenge from a pony named Sci. For those of you who don’t know, he’s quite the musical pony! Just yesterday, he released his latest EP titled Vinyl Scratch will Kick Your Ass, a name that garners my instant approval. Anyway, the final two songs on the playlist are not only pretty fun, they are made using entirely other brony’s songs! When I checked this album as it came out (had no time to listen to it), the first thing I noticed was the greets list: The list of all the bronies he used samples from.
To us at Equestrian Rhythm, he issued a challenge: Why not try to spot as many individual songs as you can?

Musical Analysis 6

Hello yet again, everypony. Sonic30 here with my next musical analysis segment. This time, I'm doing "Sonic Rainboom - THE SONG" by PhillyPu. This one is interesting because it combines music and episode 16 together. Basically, the song sums up the events of the entire episode into a five minute chunk of music and voice clips. According to PhillyPu, "...you can listen to MLP, WHILE NOT ACTUALLY WATCHING MLP!!"
Anyway, the review is after the break. Where else would it be?

PMV Spotlight - My (not-so) Little Pony Parody

Hey ponies, Soggy here with PMV Spotlight number 2! There are many different types of PMVs, you’ve got the traditional video music cover, songs made using snippets from FiM, stand-ups, mash-ups, even video covers of Broadway. I’ll try to cycle through different types to avoid being too boring, so next up we have an anthology PMV.

Review 8: Winter Wrap Up (Living Tombstone Remix) - The Living Tombstone

While I was writing up my Top 7 last week, I had a tab open. Guess what song happened to be on that tab. Unfortunately I posted before I got around to listening to this, otherwise there is a very good chance it would have been Top 8 instead of 7.

Birthday Celebration and an Announcement

VGPonies - Negativefox

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY LITTLE PONY! For those that didn't know it, today (October 10, 2011) was the one year anniversary of the premier of the first episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It's been one full year of awesome ponies, and there's still more to come.
Second, I've got a little announcement that I'll put after the break. Be warned, it's not strictly about ponies, but it'd be great if everypony could give it a read.

Musical Analysis 5

Hello again, everypony! It's sonic30 again. I know it's been a bit since my last post, but I had to write a fairly large essay and study for a final exam over these last few days. Online courses means that I have to take a new final exam every five weeks, so that'll be fun.
Anyway, now on to the song. This time, I'm doing one that I thought would be both fun and ironic. It's called "Scratch vs. Octavia (FiM Main Theme Remix)" by General Mumble. I embedded the "Private Show Version" because the original version had some crowd noises in the background, which I thought took away from the song just a bit. However, I'll link the original at the bottom of the review. The Private Show Version is the same, but the crowd sounds are gone, giving us nothing but the music.
As always, the review is after the break.

Review 7: Friendship is Magic - KeepOnRockin'

This is my seventh review so (because 7 is all magical, right?), I did a song centering around magic. It was a toss-up between this and Twilight's Sonata, but I was more in the mood for the beating drums and sparking electronics this tune provides so readily, and just rolled with it.

The track opens with an already set backing tone of drum and bass, slightly harsh on the ears, but definitely motivating once the main rhythm kicks in.

Weekly Top 7 #1

Part-E - SpeccySY

Running this blog is enjoyable. I like a lot of pony music and love to share my views. One issue, however, is the sheer amount! So many songs are released each and every week, it can be a bit daunting.
Also, it can be difficult to do an entire review on some of the songs I like. While they may be good songs, I might not be able to think up enough unique things to write about.

To fight both of these issues I've decided to create a new segment, highlighting my top 7 pick of the week. Why seven? Ten is a musical overload, and I discovered five just isn't enough. Also seven's a magical number, right?

Wednesday, 5 October 2011

Review 6: Art Of The Dress (Always Stressed Mix) - PinkiePieSwear

This was one of my earlier collected pony songs, when I still only had about fifteen, and it’s stuck pretty high on my list for a number of reasons. For such an obviously remixed song, it flows remarkably well and funnily enough, I favour it when I, myself, am stressed.

PMV Spotlight - Hardware Store

Hey everypony, SoggyDoggy here with the new segment: PMV Spotlight. Basically I talk about different PMVs that are really awesome rather than actual songs, because some of them are just as brilliant and usually musical anyway.

New Team Member

Hello everypony, Multifish here!

You know, PMVs are pretty darn cool, huh? And I feel that maybe we should give them at least a bit of coverage. So we hired this young pony, who coincidentally designed our snazzy banner.
Soggy Doggy is the latest addition to the team and will be covering a new segment, known as "PMV Spotlight". Imaginative name, right? He'll basically be highlighting well-put-together PMVs and maybe throwing down a bit of a report on a each of them.

So give him your support and keep an eye out for his posts!

Also, he's a slight Luna fanatic. So watch out for that.

Musical Analysis 4

Hello again! It's sonic30 with yet another Musical Analysis. This time, I thought I'd do something a bit calmer than my other reviews. Plus, it's a lesser known song, but it's decent, so I thought it deserved a little love.
The song is "Art of the Dress (Synth Baroque Remix)" by DJ Eckleburg. It's a remix of "Art of the Dress," obviously, so enjoy! As always, the review is after the break.

Monday, 3 October 2011

New Poll

The new poll is up, containing nothing but the composers you recommended in a previous post. I was blown away with the results of the last on. There's definitely still some still left unmentioned, but I just looked through all those suggestions and realized; We actually have these composers viewing our blog! Wow! You know, if you want to throw us early copies of your tunes, we'd be happy to do early reviews...

But, yes, vote in that poll. It gives me an idea as to your tastes and how many ponies stick around on the site.

Review 5: Are You Proud To Be A Brony? - JPT (BlackGryph0n)

Simply put, this is not my style of music. I like tunes I can move to, tunes that flow, tunes that make me feel; this is simply pop!

And I love it. Fortunately I also love to sing along to songs, and I adore the lyrics in this little number. As fluffy as it is, it grew on me quickly, much as Summer did before it.

Poll Results

Yeah, I know this is late, but I was busy.

So! Thanks to all the ponies that voted. This poll has been really useful, both to decide on how better to pander to our audience, and see how many ponies stayed on the site long enough to vote!
I was actually quite surprised by these results. And annoyed at myself for a couple of the artists I forgot, or omitted. I'll throw up another poll containing only the artists you guys requested, or request in the comments below.

I Have Returned

Look, everypony, I'm back a day earlier than I expected! Now to put Sonic30 back in his cage.

Also, a good friend of mine cooked us up a shiny new banner! I kind of threw mine together in a bad way... So SoggyDoggy came along to save the day with his Gimp wizadry.

I'll try to get my latest review finished and ready later today.

Musical Analysis 3

Hello again, everypony! It's sonic30 here, with another Musical Analysis. This time is a bit different because I'm doing my first requested song! Here's a special thanks to Frith for suggesting the song "Chaos and Harmony" by Tephrax.
Just so you all know, I will do the songs you request, just like this one. So if you've got ideas or a favorite song, just give me a link.
Anyway, the review is after the page break.
