New Year's Eve

Just wanted to take this opportunity as it clocks over to New Year's Eve, to say thank you to all of you that have been with us from the start, and to those still joining us along the way. This little site has received so much more support than I could have imagined. Sorry there's been a distinct lack of posts lately. We've all been tied up with holiday-like responsibilities, much family business and such.

I also wanted to use this opportunity to tell you all to look at the task bar up there. What's that? Equestrianbeat.com? Why, I believe it is! After much a debacle and domain wrangling, I finally got this blasted newfangled internet thing-a-ma-jig to work for me! For some reason it says equestrianrhythm.com is already taken, so we'll see how we go with "beat." That's musical enough, right? And I hear it's modern to have a separate domain to the website name. Bronyville gets away with it, why not us?

Also, our dear fan Brendon crafted another mighty fine banner for the New Year! Pinkie... I think you went a little overboard on the confetti... And the colour... [Taken down temporarily due to eye melting. Slightly too colourful. My fault, not Brendon's. I made it "better..." And then Soggy hit me.]

Preemptive Happy New Year to you all!

Epic Pony Rap Battles of Equestria! #1 Twilight VS G.A.P Trixie!

Yeah, I'm a bit late in posting this, but I was, you know? Asleep. That said, I wish I was woken up for this!

This is the epitome of pony rap, right here. Starting at Mic's lyrics, the man's simply a genius. And of course it doesn't end there. This has been a three week long production due to Mic the Microphone's desire to make things perfect. As such, no ordinary sound-alikes would do, he got the best. Truly, first the lovely Lauren Goodnight as Trixie sounding brilliantly boastful, but then out comes marvelous Miss Meredith as Twilight! This is my first time hearing this woman's voice and it is spot on! Lining the actual Tara Strong alongside this lady, I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference!

Altogether, this is prime example of a good rap battle between the characters we know and love, but it's not over yet. Go vote for the winner of this week, and vote for who should get down and dirty next time up on the stage of Equestria! Voting for both closes in three days, so you'd better hurry!

Snowy Spotlight - Hearth's Warming PMVs

Happy Hearth's Warming to everypony and to everypony... I forget how the rest goes, so let's just wish everypony plentiful Sparkle Cola. Hearth's Warming is upon us, or at least soon to be, silly time zones.
I have hunted across thy toobs and the many publications from the Equestria Daily to present to you -heh presents- the top 5 PMVs that celebrate the most renowned holiday of the year!

Snow, the stereotypical representation of christmas, yet I'm writing in 30+ degree heat :S
Finally, a use for that Luna-damned cloud!

Review 18: Twilight's Madness - Michael Arellano (and DJ Sp4rks)

And here we have some lovely trance from Mr Michael Arellano. I have to say, the mane thing that drew my attention to this track was not the Twilight's delicious descent into insanity. Nor was it the pleasant, yet erratic way the tone flows and skips. No, it was the fact that this was pony trance that was not created by dear Thorinair, and it was not yet another Fluttershy trance track! I don't have anything against them (in fact, I admit to having a bit of a soft spot towards them), it's just that their frustratingly common at this stage! Twilight's personality is here to counteract that today!

Edit: Thanks to Brendon for the above brilliant new banner! This is the first banner not made by Soggy Doggy we've had, and it's mighty Christmasy! Thanks again, Mister! Oh, and we hit 20, 000 page views yesterday. Hooray!

Review after the break, as per usual.

Smile! Christmas Charity Album Teaser

So, for those of you that don't know, My Little Remix have been putting together a little charity album called "Smile!" to be released on the 25th of December. They recently released this small teaser of 1 minute snippets from a few of the songs. As well as showcasing some brilliant cover art by Makkon.

The album is dedicated to the fantastic work being done by the Children's Cancer Association, all the money goes to the CCA and the option to donate through the album will be released alongside it. Give generously, and show your support!

Weekly Top 7 #11

So, the meetup is over, and we now all know what Hearth's Warming Eve entails. And was that a national anthem, or a carol? Hmmm... Nice rhythm to it, either way! With all that over, it's time to lunge into this week's Top 7! The pony Christmas carols have begun, and so far they've all been pretty darn impressive! I'm sure we'll be seeing many more leading up to Christmas in the coming week.

So now let us delve into this week's realm of musical brilliance. See you on the other side, everypony.

NotACleverPony's Final Album

As most of you should know, NotACleverPony recently retired from the pony community. It was a sad announcement, but before he leaves forever, he decided to leave us with one final album. Go grab it from here, it's pretty damn good, as we've come to expect of NACP. The album is provided for free, but the option to donate is always there.

SA Brony Meetup an Unequivocal Success!

Still recovering slightly. It was a very busy day. Unfortunately StormWolf could not join us, but we had a mighty fine romp nonetheless. I even met a chap that wrote one of his songs! I expect you at the next one, Stormy! Under penalty of banishment! Incredible turnout as it was, though. I expected 20, maybe 30 people, and we wound up with a full SIXTY!

Check after the break for some pictures and a bit of coverage of what exactly we got up to. (Other than get a stern talking to by a Target official...)

Review 17: 20 Percent Cooler - Ken Ashcorp

Right, I just realized as I organized the archive that I haven't written a review in about a couple of weeks. Whoops! So here's a quickie.

Ignoring the fact that "percent" is not actually one word, let's jump into the little brit-rap that caused quite a splash a few weeks ago.

Review after the break.

Musical Analysis 16

Hello once again, everypony! It's Sonic here with more music stuff! Anyway, this week tore me in two. I told Multi and Soggy that I'd be doing a review of this song on Sunday, but then Monday came around. In case you haven't heard, MandoPony and AcousticBrony decided to team up to make some awesome music, and their first song was released on Monday. Doing this review would require me to listen to something other than their new song. Somehow, I managed to drag myself away from it, though.
Well, today's review is on "September (Feat. Mic the Microphone and PinkieSkye)" by The Living Tombstone. As I said earlier, I decided on this song because of a conversation that took place on Sunday, so here it is. What that conversation was? I can't tell you! Besides, I've got a review to write, and you've got to read it! Or... at least... skim through it and... oh, nevermind. I type it, you read it, or whatever it is you guys do.
The review, just like always, is after the break.

Hello everypony, here's another PMV Spotlight for you all!
Heh, short n' sharp...

Weekly Top 7 #10

Oh, Vinyl... You really are Best Pony

Hey everypony! We've formed a little agreement with the folks over at the Derpy Hooves Network, in which they'll be posting our Weekly Top 7s as well. This'll not only provide some mighty fine publicity for us, but also help spread the credit due to the brilliant artists listed below!

And speaking of which, remind me to be careful of what I wish for... Find a Pet, that was a good song, but not all that remixable. Becoming Popular, on the other hoof... That's a whole different creature, right there. I was at first blown away by the original 1.5 minute long song, but then... the remixes. So... Many... Remixes! And then, of course, Daniel Ingram had to go and exacerbate the whole thing by requesting everypony to do a vocal cover, providing me with even more content!

All kidding aside, though, that was one mighty fine song from Ingram, that spawned tens of mighty fine songs. So, unless I'm mistaken, you can expect this week's Top 7 to be filled to the brim with the pony everypony should know.

PMV Spotlight - Civilization WITH PONIES!

Heheh.
Hehehehe.
Okay just a short spotlight this time around, but this PMV was just too funny to pass up.

Now obviously this becomes funnier if you've actually played a CIV game, like CIV 4 perhaps? That's what I've played anyway. Mix a hilarious song with ponies and what could be better?

The matchups in this PMV are really neat, Celestia with 'Be an Immortal Ruler' and Gilda with 'Watch out for the prick Montezuma'.
Seriously though, that guy is a douchebag!

Not much else to say really, I feel kinda stingy writing such a short review but I really just wanted to show this one off. Like many things, I only discovered this though ponies.. . but hay? Who cares?

Musical Analysis 15

Hello again, everypony! It's sonic30 here yet again! You know those days when you just get behind on everything and, even though you've got perfectly reasonable explanations for why you're behind, you know that explaining it will just sound like bad excuses? That's been my last two weeks... However, I'm going to try to set myself up on a very strict schedule. I'm not sure what the three days are going to be, but I'm tired of getting behind. I will figure out three days of the week and I will have a review on those days.
Anyway, tonight's review is of a song called "A Long Way From Equestria" by MandoPony. It's a requested review by my friend, Darth Zakora. I restate that I will consider all suggested reviews, so feel free. Well, as soon as he mentioned this song, my mind was made up. I won't waste any time here.
Go view the review. Quickly! I'm excited to write this one, so be excited to read it!

Weekly Top 7 #9

So, having somewhat recovered from that fantastic episode, I think it's about time for me to post this week's Top 7!

17... There are 17 songs in my "Top Tunes" bookmarks folder! That is the most I have ever had for one week! I hate you guys sometimes, you know that, right? You all come out with your Fancy Pants tunes, and I'm forced, neigh, required to listen to each and every one. And then I try to sort them. And then I have a mental break down brought on by hearing nothing but pony related things for six straight hours! Hey, I have a request. Half of you, stop making such great music. It would make this job so much easier if all the music you bronies created was Scootaloo-quality. You're killing me, bronies. Really, stop being so good at this.

Like that'll ever happen. On with the show!

Becoming Popular (The Pony Everypony Should Know)

Oh... My... Celestia...
That song. Couldn't put the embed up last night due to my pressing need for sleep, but here it is now. Fillies and gentlecolts, I present to you, named by the community and Daniel Ingram himself, Becoming Popular.

Now, of course I need to listen to it again, but I think that might be my favourite song of the series so far. I'm still recovering slightly, and I suppose it was slightly short, but damn... The way it runs through, it's deserving of a full review! But I think that's a bad idea.

That Octavia appearance coincided nicely with our banner, huh? Good job, Soggy. And I agree with him when he says that new pony - Fleur, or Elizabeth, it's in dispute - is one of the best background ponies so far.

Generic Update

Alright, this is a bit of an update post for you.
I'm going to mention stuff from the new episode, so I'll put it after the break to avoid spoilers.

Top 8 PMVs ~ November

Hello Everypony! While Multifish has been busy with the countless Weekly Top 7's and Sonic's been planning interviews, I've been working really, really, really hard coming up with the best 8 PMVs from all of November!

Ok, no I haven't. I confess; nothing but Skyrim, but have my first ever Top 8 anyway.
Nevertheless, this still took a good three hours of hunting, sorting and hoof-tapping procrastination...
