Daniel Ingram is a Genius (Kinda Old News)

Alright, so, we already all know how Daniel Ingram, the man behind the show's amazing songs, is a genius. However, there's been a bit of text floating around the internet since the new episodes aired, and for some reason, I hadn't thought to put it up here on EqR until just now! I have no idea why, but it fits so well on our little music site. By the way, this is all referring to "This Day Aria," which is sung by Princess Cadence and Chrysalis disguised as Cadence.

"The song's key is Db Major. That means that the root chord is a Db major chord. Usually, an Ab major chord will lead into a Db major. This is the V-I chord progression, and it is known as the Authentic Cadence. Now, it seems to resolve to a sadder chord at the end of the phrase. Instead of ending on Db major, it lands on Bb minor: the relative minor of Db major. When a chord progression seems to be heading to the root chord, but lands on the relative minor, that is called... Deceptive Cadence."

And soon after, Mr. Ingram was asked about this discovery via his Twitter account or something. I only saw a screencap of the actual post, and I don't use sites like that enough to recognize it right off the bat. Anyway, he did confirm this as intentional. When Cadence sang, it was an Authentic Cadence. When Chrysalis sang, it was a Deceptive Cadence.

Daniel Ingram, you are my hero.

(I wasn't the one who figured this out, although I kinda wish I was. This was shown to me on Ponychan. According to Sellyme, this was originally posted by Kwulhu on Reddit.)

    3. Why you are still not part of this site, I don't know. You do so much work for them and you keep helping them.

    4. Shanaar: Well, for a start, three of the four writers are from South Australia, making that 4 out of 5 would be a bit silly.

Also, Multifish knows that I'd just break stuff.

    5. Oh, Selly. Just because I'm the ONLY ONE that ISN'T from South Australia... or even Australia at all... doesn't mean that you can't go ahead and help us out. I, personally, look forward to your little comments and such. Hehe, just keep being awesome! Besides, you don't need to be an official writer on the site to know that you're already doing just as much as we are!

  2. You want another, new, revalation?

The episode was won with 'The power of love'

'The power of love' is a Huey Lewis and the News song

Huey Lewis and the News' Record label for that song's release was...

    ... Chrysalis

    Seriously. Look it up.

These show creators need to stop blowing minds, or else they'll have no fans left!

  3. I believe the deceptive cadence was in BBBFF, not This Day Aria. It's extra confusing because both songs are in Db. But it's on Twilight's "forever".

    1. This is indeed correct, but there were more similar musical in-jokes in This Day Aria. It's basically a giant mindfuckery musical.
