Weekly Top 7 #16

Celestia dammit, I really like Vinyl Scratch... I'm glad Ponyhoof finally put up a Vinyl skin. Must Pon-3fy EVERYTHING!

A-hem. So it's been a while since I've done a Top 7, hasn't it? And this was not a good week to jump back into the fray, I can tell you! There was so much great music and it was so hard to narrow it all down! This was actually the first week for a while where my shortlist has been over 10 songs.

You'll notice that I didn't place the three official songs from the finale in the Top 7, but we can all accept that they were too brilliant to warrant it. It's really tempting to place Love Is In Bloom here, just for Vinyl's appearance... Not enough media for Best Pon-3 this week. Mean ol' Chrysalis stealin' the spotlight. Her and those other blasted vocal characters... One day Vinyl'll show'em all!

Anyway, let's get on with the show! Find the Tip Top 7 pony tunes of the week after the break.

UPDATE: SoGreatandPowerful's The Standard Model added. It slipped past somehow, and I love everything SoGreatandPowerful does!

#7 + 1: The Standard Model - SoGreatandPoweful

The PinkiePieSwear for those bronies new to the community! Sampling perfection, I say!

#7: In Wonder - Aviators

I have to admit, Aviators is honestly growing on me. Some of his vocal tracks can sound quite similar, but he knows how to find his niche. Pretty fine conveyance of emotion in this track, and I'm a huge fan of sentimental sibling stuff having three of my own.

The track may be typically Aviators with it's synth-y voice cut with violin, but the lyrics are sweet and the whole tone fits perfectly around them. Nice job, Aviators!

#6: This Day Aria (AgileDash Remix) - AgileDash

Very nice piece of trance here. I love AgileDash sometimes, and this is him at his finest. Smooth and flowing, this is what it's all about. A large number of speedy techno tracks were released this past week, it's nice to have a bit of electronic calmness...

#5: Shining Sacrifice - The Dumplingz

Yeeeeaaaahhh... I think this song bumped Shining Armor up to one of the best colts in my books. Second only to Fancy Pants 'cause Fancy Pants is a boss!

On the song itself, it gives off a proper image of the captain of the royal guard. The strength, the strife, the depth of character. It's very tempting to do a full review now. I think the show itself didn't represent Shining quite as much as I would have liked, but that's really just due to time constrictions. Oh, how I wish a full movie could be made...
This is Dumplingz's first orchestral piece and I think I speak for many when I say I want more!

#4: Flight Dream - Don DeVore

Wow... This song just makes me want plushies of the CMC and snuggle up tight next to them... It's so darn relaxing! I almost can't be bothered with the rest of the Top 7 because this track is so calming. Applebloom, I love you! Sweetiebell, you're adorable! Scootaloo... You can't sing!

#3: The Beginning of Order - StormWolf

Very fun Discord song right here. This is actually a remake, so I'm not sure if I should put it in here, but eh. Why not? StormWolf does here what he does best, speedy, electronic, hyperactive fun! I really quite love the lyric's take on Celestia dethroning Discord. Celestia being seen as the bad guy is certainly a card played frequently, but not so much when against Discord. And the clever use of wording makes it feel properly canon, something not easily accomplished.

#2: BBBFF (Sim Gretina Remix) - SimGretina

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee~! SimGretina always leads to fun! Does anypony else miss his completely messed up music videos? I - know - I - do. Ah well... Very fun energizing song, nonetheless.

#1: Pinkie's Brew Russian Gypsy Jazz Love Is In Bloom (Archie Club Mix) - Archie V.

Seriously, though, go check out the Pinkie's Brew cover!

Guys, c'mon... It's Archie V... Need more be said?

Oh, and for those that don't know, his old account was hacked. So use this new one.

Honorable mentions (because it was really hard this week): Smile, Smile, Smile remix - SynFoal (New artist! Go support him!), The Derpy Hooves Song - LittleMonsterRina (Awesome voice work, witty lyrics, and not depressing! Proper musical tone), What We Have is Magic - Regina Spektor Scarlett Peace (Very sweet vocals and lyrics. Friendship is great, isn't it?), This Day Aria Remix - 4thImpulse (same guy that makes those awesome DJ sets can also create freaking awesome beats!), AppleDash Song (Fast Enough) - Silverwolfpoet (because, while not as great as Rarijack, AppleDash has a place in my heart. Also pretty great AJ voice). I think that's the most honorable mentions I've given in a post... I might as well just post everything in a great big post if I go on like this, huh? Oh well! I make the rules, so nopony can stop me! This must be how Celestia feels! Muahahahahaaaaaa!!!

Okay... Calming down... That took about three hours to post... I kept the notes on each song short because of that. You guys really know how to make music, don't you? Keep it up, I say! I found plenty this week that were either new, small, or simply unknown to me. Keep practicing, and keep on rockin'.

  1. Russian - Gypsy - Jazz!
What more could a pony want?!?!?

I actually recognise most of the songs here... for once.
But if I may say so, I prefer Sim Gretina's BBBFF to Archie's LiiB. I found it had more bounce, and therefore more fun!

But yes, great week for songs!

  2. Holy shit. This is my top 7 list for this week. Right down to the placing.

    o.0

I particularly liked Crashing the Gala by beetwick, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQ94l8oSEWU

Anywho, 4am, need to go to school in an hour, I'll write up my reviews there.

    1. That came out when I finished the listing, so I threw it in next week's shortlist. Also, I really must have done something wrong if this Top 7 is identical to yours... I'm shuddering right now!

Kind of annoyed at myself for not putting 4thImpulse's This Day Aria remix in. Go check that one out in the honorable mentions!

    2. I think Pinkie helped you if your list is the same as Selly.
Tell us where she is and give us all the treats she left behind Multi.

      Nice list anyway.

  3. Bit late here, but...

First of all, it's Donn DeVore. Two 'n's

    Aviators - In Wonder

That intro is absolutely magnificent, and it is a bit of a change from Aviators' normal songs, where the intro leads into a heavier rhythm, whereas in this song the actual rhythm is of a lighter tone to the intro. The quick piano in the background manages to keep up a fast BPM, allowing for a larger depth in lyricism than most "calm" songs allow, and the balance between soft and quick is absolutely masterful, Aviators is clearly getting better and better with his music. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he were to be signed by a label much like Archie.V, because he has the added hook of an absolutely brilliant singing voice. The flow in this song is so incredibly smooth, it's hard to believe that it wasn't produced professionally.

    AgileDash - This Day Aria

I really can't say much about this. The original song was absolutely amazing, and AgileDash's remix has lost none of the quality from the original. The intro is every bit as haunting and memorable as Daniel Ingram's masterpiece, and from there he manages to integrate his normal heavier style with the Disneyesque style of This Day Aria flawlessly, making it an extremely unique sound. Vocal chiptune trance? I really don't know what it is, but it sounds good.

    TheDumplingz - Shining Sacrifice

I first noticed TheDumplingz when he released Better Spitfire, and his amazing lyricism sucked me in instantly. Even though this is an instrumentl piece, it's still absolutely amazing, one of the best instrumental songs I've heard in a while. For some reason 1:57 to 2:03 reminds me of Fruits Of Her Labour. ♫From caring hooves, the harvest grows; Red joins the leaves♫. Such a peaceful song.

Donn DeVore - Flight Dream (CMC Mix)

C'monC'monC'monC'monC'mon! Man, I absolutely love this song. The vocal sampling is perfect, and it's just so peaceful. I may or may not have just listened to it six times without actually writing anything down, but to be honest, I don't think I need to. This song just makes me inexplicably happy, and it's by far the best of Donn's work.

StormWolf - The Beginning of Order (Redux)

I swear to Celestia he says "Now she's frozen away in stone" at 2:07. But ignoring that, this song is amazing. The original was a brilliant song, nabbing 14th place in the top 100 ExplodingPonyToast and I did for Everfree Radio last year, but this is miles better, and shows just how much StormWolf has improved. The vocals are far clearer and smooth, he's improved hugely on his eurobeat backing, and the synth is like sugar in audible form.

    SimGretina - BBBFF (Remix)

I'm going to be completely honest. I didn't much like the original BBBFF song. It was a good song, and had lots of potential, but it just seemed a bit too clichéd for me. While SimGretina's remix retains that cheesiness, holy shit does it make up for it by pure musical brilliance. ♫We shared our hopes, we shared our dreams!♫

Archie - Love Is In Bloom (Remix)

What can I say? Archie has been through a lot recently, and it's glad to see him return to his roots with a completely pony song, independent of his record label, and made purely for his fans. And wow, he does it in style. This is easily deserving of the top spot for this week, and it perfectly highlights the reason why Archie got signed. As Cameron:D said, this is getting played at my (imaginary) wedding. There is not a single part of this song I don't like, and the fact that Archie had to make this from the original, shorter version of the song highlights his amazing ability to turn a short song into a nearly 7 minute long masterpiece.
